Set Design (Emma Mitchell)

SCENE ONE

Scene One consists of a minimalist set design, with not many props to distract the audience from the action in hand. However, there are enough props and set design to make the opening effective in creative an eerie mood. Furthermore, the dim lighting which will be consisted in the set will be effective on its own, rather than have a hugely detailed set design. The first clip provded shows what the set will look like from the point of view of the camera, therefore what it will appear like on film. The lighting will effect the set greatly, as it adds an atmosphere to the set, and furthermore, the props are able to be shadowed in specific areas, which gives an eerie intention.

The second slide shown on the video is one which I have designed from a birds eye view shot, and therefore the floor plan is clearer. As you can see, the black screen is efficient for providing us with a clear screen to act in front of, and as the main characters movements will be stationary in this scene. This scene clearly connotes the horror genre, as it is minimal, there is blood on the floor suggesting death, and the candles and dark wall represents a confined space, where the main character is to be placed.

SCENE THREE

Scene three is situated in Honeywell canteen, therefore we didn't have to plan the set design, in as much detail as Scene One. Furthermore there aren't may props which we had to use, to help to create the set design, as it was already set. However, from the filming you will see we have used the bags featured in our props list, and the costumes listed in costume design. The set was quite simplistic, as we only needed chairs, and a table for a clear conversation to enable the storyline to be made more clearly.
The set plan which i have sketched includes both a birds eye shot, and a medium shot, of what the set will look like on the film. As you can see, we have only decided to use a small amount of the canteen, due to the lack of realism, if we were to use the whole of the canteen. From the birds eye shot, you will see the door which plays a main part in the set design, as it is used for create the effect of a commotion, and also for providing the characters with an exit.
